{"id":11,"date":"2012-01-31T12:46:04","date_gmt":"2012-01-31T12:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/?p=11"},"modified":"2025-02-02T09:44:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-02T09:44:00","slug":"les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye\/","title":{"rendered":"GRAVURES RUPESTRES DE L&rsquo;UBAYE"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Le Pays et les Hommes<\/h1>\n<p>L&rsquo;UBAYE a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme \u00ab\u00a0un bout du Monde\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\nd\u00e9favoris\u00e9 et n&rsquo;offrant \u00e0 ses habitants que deux alternatives\u00a0: le pastoralisme ou l&rsquo;\u00e9migration.<br \/>\nDe fait ,l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 pastorale a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9dominante jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00a0\u00e9mergence de phases de transhumance et d&rsquo;\u00e9migration au cours du XIXe si\u00e8cle.<br \/>\nCette \u00e9migration a \u00e9t\u00e9 dirig\u00e9e d&rsquo;abord vers les grandes villes de France, puis des ouvriers et colporteurs ont sillonn\u00e9 l&rsquo;Europe .<br \/>\nEnfin l&rsquo;\u00e9migration s&rsquo;est port\u00e9e vers la Louisiane, puis le Mexique avec ces \u00ab\u00a0Barcelonnettes\u00a0\u00bb l\u00e0-bas, \u00ab\u00a0Mexicains\u00a0\u00bb ici.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye\/ub8-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12\" title=\"UB8-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-1-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><strong>Fig 1-De retour de la Havane REYE tient \u00e0 t\u00e9moigner de son aventure- noter le figure stylis\u00e9e \u00e0 droite et les lettres LLK , qui pourraient se traduire Lib\u00e9rez la Karibe (Cara\u00efbe), associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la date de 1899 (post\u00e9rieure \u00e0 la guerre entre les USA et l&rsquo;Espagne pour le contr\u00f4le de Cuba). <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Toute gravure poss\u00e8de plusieurs \u00ab\u00a0strates\u00a0\u00bb significatives qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;est pas \u00e9vident d&rsquo;identifier, en particulier le contexte TEL QUE L&rsquo;A PERCU L&rsquo;AUTEUR DE LA GRAVURE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dans le cadre de ces migrations des Pi\u00e9montais sont venus comme ouvriers ou bergers et depuis le XVIIe si\u00e8cle les militaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 de plus en plus pr\u00e9sents dans cette zone fronti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>LA TRANSHUMANCE<\/strong><br \/>\nPour le citadin la transhumance serait une sorte d&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00e8nement folklorique vaguement festif\u00a0; dans ces vall\u00e9es ce sont\u00a0 90000 ovins qui arrivent en 1815 en Ubaye dont 20000 vont a Maurin et en 1994\u00a0 il y a encore 11000 transhumants dans ces m\u00eames vallons -L.AUNE in \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;Elevage en Provence\u00a0\u00bb-1995-<br \/>\n<strong><em>Un raz-de mar\u00e9e qui n&rsquo;a rien d&rsquo;anodin.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nContrairement \u00e0 nos concepts modernes, il est maintenant certain que les mouvements humains ont d\u00e9but\u00e9 tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t puisque d\u00e8s la pr\u00e9histoire on sait que des flux commerciaux concernaient ces vall\u00e9es\u00a0: haches en jad\u00e9ite du mont Viso et cuivre du Queyras, comme en t\u00e9moignent les gravures rupestres les plus anciennes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>Ubaye valley is generally considered as a land&rsquo;s end\u00a0 offering to its inhabitants <\/em><\/span>only<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>two issues\u00a0: shepherd activity (TRANSHUMANCE) or emigration .<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>In fact, if shepherd activity has been the main possibility for centuries, emigration has been specially active since the XIXe century, first towards main french cities,then all-over Europe mainly as hawkers,young chimney sweepers -then towards Louisiana and , Mexico creating the nicknames of \u00ab\u00a0Barcelonnettes\u00a0\u00bb abroad an \u00ab\u00a0Mexicans\u00a0\u00bbin these Valleys.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>Beside, shepherds and workers came from Piemont-Italy which is close and since <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>XVIIe century soldiers were more and more present in this frontier region.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>Outside these Valleys ,\u00ab\u00a0transhumance\u00a0\u00bb is generally considered as some folkloric<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>pastime\u00a0; one must underline that 90000 sheep are present in 1815 out of which 20000 graze in Maurin valley , moving to 11000 in the same area in 1994. (L.AUNE)<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>This is a severe tidal wave.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>The human movements started much before historic times as active trade of Jadeit axes from Mount Viso and copper from the nearby Queyras occured at prehistoric times as shown by oldest petroglyphs<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye\/ub8-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19\" title=\"UB8-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-2.jpg 503w, https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-2-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 503px) 100vw, 503px\" \/><\/a><strong>Fig 2- Cet \u00ab\u00a0orant\u00a0\u00bb est la figure pr\u00e9historique embl\u00e9matique de l&rsquo;Ubaye. Contrairement \u00e0 la plupart des documents attribu\u00e9s a cette \u00e9poque on notera son caract\u00e8re pacifique.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ceci nous interdit de consid\u00e9rer les habitants de ces vall\u00e9es comme isol\u00e9s et coup\u00e9s des influences \u00e9trang\u00e8res\u00a0: leurs traces dans la pierre montrent des caract\u00e8res bien tremp\u00e9s,\u00e9pris de libert\u00e9, cultiv\u00e9s et entreprenants.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>These facts show that we cannot consider the inhabitants of these valleys as stuck to their land and cut from foreign influences\u00a0: their traces in the stone show strong characters fond of freedom, open-minded and enterprising.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">L&rsquo;Expression Grav\u00e9e<\/h1>\n<p>S&rsquo;int\u00e9resser aux gravures rupestres-qu&rsquo;il ne faut pas assimiler aux graffiti- c&rsquo;est d&rsquo;abord apprendre \u00e0 voir des traces modestes qui souvent sont les <em><strong>SEULES TRACES<\/strong><\/em> que des gens simples nous ont laiss\u00e9.<br \/>\nSi on consid\u00e8re l&rsquo;Histoire officielle, on pourrait en conclure que notre pays n&rsquo;a \u00e9t\u00e9 peupl\u00e9 que de moines et de soldats, c&rsquo;est\u00a0 oublier ces cohortes de gens ordinaires qui ont permis que l&rsquo;Histoire se fasse.<\/p>\n<p>Jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent ces traces n&rsquo;ont gu\u00e8re int\u00e9ress\u00e9 les sp\u00e9cialistes qui ne les consid\u00e8rent pas comme de \u00ab\u00a0beaux documents\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0; notre propos est de souligner leur int\u00e9r\u00eat et de sortir des images traditionnelles de\u00a0 bergers, et soldats plus ou moins incultes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>Focusing on Petroglyphs\u00a0 means that we are not dealing with graffiti, but with modest traces which are often <strong>the only trace, simple people left.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>Looking at History we can feel that history has only\u00a0 been the fact of soldiers and monks, forgetting that\u00a0 cohorts of \u00ab\u00a0ordinary\u00a0\u00bb people made History possible.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>Until now these traces dit not interested specialists,as they are not \u00ab\u00a0beautiful artefacts\u00a0\u00bb and were neglected ,our purpose is to highlight the interest of these documents and improve the traditional images of culturally poor (if not worse) shepherds or soldiers<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Un Art et une Technicit\u00e9<\/h1>\n<p>A la diff\u00e9rence des graffiti, ces traces sont la plupart du temps , r\u00e9alis\u00e9es avec beaucoup de go\u00fbt et de soin, ce qui est en contradiction avec l&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se traditionnelle de passe-temps de d\u00e9soeuvr\u00e9s ou de d\u00e9biles.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye\/p1070248b-mod\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-76\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-76\" title=\"P1070248B-mod\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/P1070248B-mod.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"605\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/P1070248B-mod.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/P1070248B-mod-317x300.jpg 317w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Fig 3- Cet auto-portrait sans concessions du Berger Capare est au format 4x5cm ce qui n\u00e9cessite un technicit\u00e9 et une dose de patience remarquables.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Les Enjeux<\/h1>\n<p>A ce jour un peu plus de 5000 documents ont \u00e9t\u00e9 recens\u00e9s et nous estimons que pour ces seules Vall\u00e9es le \u00ab\u00a0gisement\u00a0\u00bb est de l&rsquo;ordre de 20000 gravures.<br \/>\nPour la p\u00e9riode historique les documents recens\u00e9s vont du XVIe si\u00e8cle jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 AUJOURD&rsquo;HUI&#8230;, contrairement \u00e0 tant d&rsquo;autres manifestations et formes d&rsquo;expression cet art des rochers est un Art vivant.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/les-gravures-rupestres-de-lubaye\/ub8-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21\" title=\"UB8-4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-4.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/UB8-4-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>\u00ab\u00a0Massil, n\u00e9 le 4 Juin 1997- Et\u00e9 97-Son premier \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 la montagne\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\n<strong>Fig 4- Ce petit monument d\u00e9di\u00e9 au jeune Massil fait partie d&rsquo;un ensemble grav\u00e9 plus complexe qui s&rsquo;est enrichi au fil des ann\u00e9es, nous y reviendrons. L&rsquo;art Berb\u00e8re semble mis \u00e0 contribution. La r\u00e9alisation ,au couteau ,montre que le graveur se soucie peu de la plan\u00e9it\u00e9 du support\u00a0: sa priorit\u00e9 est de comm\u00e9morer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nous allons tenter de vous fournir quelques cl\u00e9s pour mieux identifier et comprendre la signification de ces traces en visiteur ATTENTIF et respectueux<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>In opposition to GRAFFITI, these traces are most of the time , produced with high skill and care\u00a0; which is in contradiction with the hypothesis of hobbies of children or idiots.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>To date we\u00a0 listed more than 5000 documents for this area and the estimation is that the\u00a0 total would reach about 20000.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>These\u00a0 historic\u00a0 traces rank from XVIth century to&#8230;TO-DAY, <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>one of the main striking features is that this Rock-Art is still alive.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>The aim is to provide you several keys to enable you to become a \u00ab\u00a0VISITEUR ATTENTIF\u00a0\u00bb of these Valleys and take care of these traces.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Les Pionniers<\/h1>\n<p>C&rsquo;est Fran\u00e7ois ARNAUD qui s&rsquo;est le premier int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 la Vall\u00e9e , ses habitants, ses traditions et en a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une analyse pr\u00e9cise..<br \/>\nEn 1988,\u00a0 Pierre MARTEL-Fondateur du Mouvement Alpes de Lumi\u00e8re- s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse aux gravures de l&rsquo;Ubaye et doit \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9\u00a0 comme le pionnier et l&rsquo;initiateur de cette d\u00e9marche.<br \/>\nA sa suite, depuis 1995,nous tentons de poursuivre et d\u00e9velopper un peu plus qu&rsquo;un inventaire\u00a0: une d\u00e9marche d&rsquo;analyse du contenu de ces gravures et de transmission de ce patrimoine.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>The first to bear a candid eye on Ubaye Valley was Francois ARNAUD<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>in 1902 who offered an accurate ethnologic analysis.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>In1988.Pierre MARTEL (founder of the\u00a0 Alpes de Lumi\u00e8re Association) became\u00a0 aware of Ubaye petroglyphs an can be considered as the\u00a0 discoverer of this heritage .<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #826540;\"> <em>He retired\u00a0 1995\u00a0;\u00a0\u00a0 and we tried to maintain, enrich and increase this <\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #826540;\"><em>inventory.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/art-rupestre-historique\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-122\" title=\"next\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ubaye-rupestre.fr\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/next-150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Le Pays et les Hommes L&rsquo;UBAYE a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme \u00ab\u00a0un bout du Monde\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9favoris\u00e9 et n&rsquo;offrant \u00e0 ses habitants que deux alternatives\u00a0: le pastoralisme ou l&rsquo;\u00e9migration.
